Giacomo piazzi, known in the art world as Jamito, is a solitary and enigmatic artist. A man of few words, his painting reveals an extrordinary luminosity and a capacity to evoke the distant worlds wich, though they may seem to exist only in the imagery of travel stories, he has actually seen in real life.
A great globetrotter, Jamito speaks five languages and is at home in every corner of all five continents. but more than anywhere else he has spent time in the heart of africa, though he hasn't been back there for many years now 'so as not to see it changed'. It is to this, his Africa, that he has dedicated his painting, with that veil of nostalgia and sense of the romantic typical of those who might prefer to remember a woman they once loved, and from whom life has separated them for too many years, rather then actually meet her again. The women of that land are creatures cloaked in poetry, a poetry that jamito brings to life on canvas with grace and passion, as well as with semplicity and a lightness of touch which are rare these days.
Primitive and fauve, these paintings - almost always framed between two sheets of glass - achieve the freshness of artistic illustrations in books of fables or of adventure, and because of this, the modern charm of a new impressionism. Jamito lives in Bologna, travelling to South America and Asia
