What is an Aide-de-Camp in the Napoleonic Wars? An Aide-de-Camp, during the Napoleonic Wars, was an officer hand-picked to assist a high-ranking commander, such as Napoleon himself. These officers were often experts in various branches of the military and acted as advisors, messengers, and representatives of the commander. They wore a distinctive braided rope, called an aiguillette, over their shoulder, a symbol of their role. Aides-de-Camp were respected for their loyalty and expertise, and were often tasked with overseeing diplomatic or military missions
