Grannies 12#05. Maggie Smith

The second portrait of the “Grannies” series, it depicts the amazing British actress Maggie Smith, here as Lady Violet, Dowager Countess of Grantham, character in the successful television series Downton Abbey.
I chose her to be portrayed in my Grannies series because she perfectly represents my idea of a woman who proudly accept herself, the passage of time, her wrinkled face. She is beautiful, she is gorgeous, she is self-confident, she doesn’t try to be someone else or a younger-self, she is just what she is, proud to be there, enjoying every single moment of her life and not regretting (at least, judging by her image and what she let be seen outside) the past, but living the present.
The other thing that amuses me a lot, is to insert well-known women among totally unknown ones, in order to emphasize the fact that they are all the same, they are all (potentially) grannies and, as, usually, grannies are, they are wise enough to show us all how to accept themselves, the change on your face that time is doing (and should do), the time that goes by, without trying desperately to stop it, but embracing it. Life is change. Who refuses to change, refuses to live.
It is always made by graphite, used as it was a painting, and framed has 50 cm x 50 cm size.
